Vintage posters India: Ganga Maang Rahi Balidan (1981).
This is an actual surviving rare vintage original Bollywood poster of the 1981 Hindi film directed by Radhakant. Released under the Sudarshan Chitra banner, Ganga Maang Rahi Balidan starred Sohrab Modi in the lead role of king Prithviraj Chauhan. Dev Kumar, Heena Kausar and Abhi Bhattacharya played supporting roles in the film.
This historical epic drama was based on the life of valiant Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan and his battles against the tyrannical Afghan invader Mohammad Ghori.
Printed and circulated during the theatrical release of the film (somewhere in the 1980s), this Ganga Maang Rahi Balidan poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This vintage posters India print was originally designed in oil on canvas format by an art studio in Delhi. Actor Sohrab Modi, who plays the role of king Prithviraj Chauhan in the film, is seen in a stunning hand painted rendition at the bottom, holding a staff in his hand. Actress Heena Kausar is seen alongside in her avatar as princess Samyukta.
Lettering used in this poster is in Devanagari Hindi, with a translation of the title appearing in English at the top. The title of this vintage posters India print is seen written in a striking 3D styled font prominently on the entire upper half of this Bollywood poster. This Indian vintage poster uses stunning hand drawn techniques combined with bright eye catchy colors – primarily a mix of red, yellow, green and blue.
Ganga Maang Rahi Balidan was remade in 2022 as Samrat Prithviraj, with Akshay Kumar reprising the role of king Prithviraj Chauhan. The film was written and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi.
