Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Indian cinema poster of the 1975 Telugu movie Maya Maschindra (1975), which was directed by Babubhai Mistry and starred superstar N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) in the lead role

Dubbed and released in Hindi as Alakh Niranjan (1975), Maya Maschindra (1975) was produced by P. Subba Rao and also starred Ramakrishna, Kantha Rao, KV Chelam, Balakrishna, Vanisri, Kanchana, Dhanasiri, Varalakshmi and Anitha in supporting roles.

Babubhai Mistry being the pioneer of special effects in Indian cinema, was also the special effects director for Maya Machhindra (1975). A Telugu spiritual drama, the story of the film was based on the ancient teachings of Hinduism surrounding the subject of gender equality.

The Preserver of the cosmos Lord Vishnu and his wife goddess Lakshmi debate about who is more superior between a man and a woman. The two decide to establish their individual claims through earthly incarnations and demonstrations. Lord Vishnu takes on the human form of Yogi Machhindranath or Matsyendranath, while goddess Lakshmi is born as princess Tilottama Devi, who has a strong dislike for men and establishes her kingdom called Kamarupa, where women dominate men as slaves. However, when Machindranath enters her kingdom, she eventually falls in love with him and marries him.

The biggest superstar of Telugu cinema, N.T. Rama Rao played the role of Lord Vishnu and his avatar Machhindranath or Matsyendranath. Vanisri played the role of goddess Lakshmi and her incarnation Tilottama Devi, while Ramakrishna played Lord Shiva and his incarnation Gorakhnath.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1975), this Alakh Niranjan poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This Telugu movie poster was originally designed using a combination of both hand painted as well as photographic collage techniques by an art studio in South India. Illustrated by Telugu movie poster painter Venkateshwar, this Alakh Niranjan poster bears his signature on the bottom right.

Actress Vanisri is seen in a stunning portrait prominently at the center of the poster, while a leopard appears on a leash alongside. Smaller close up photos of superstar N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) and actor Ramakrishna are seen on the right of this old Telugu movie poster. Lettering used in this poster is entirely in English, with a translation of the title appearing in Devanagari Hindi script as well at the bottom.

The soundtrack album of Alakh Niranjan (1975) was composed by Satyam (Chellapilla Satyanarayana Sastry).
