Bangla cinema poster art for sale: Godhuli Belay (1964).
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bengali cinema poster of the 1964 black and white Bangla drama directed by Chitta Bose that starred Biswajit Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukherjee in key roles.
Produced by Economic Productions, Godhuli Belay (1964) also starred Sandhyarani, Bikash Roy, Dilip Roy, Haradhan Bandyopadhyay, Tarun Kumar, Bipin Gupta, Sumita Sanyal, Samar Kumar and Master Debashis in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the release run of the film in Kolkata theaters (somewhere in the late 1960s), this Godhuli Belay poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bangla cinema art poster was originally designed in mixed media format using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas as well as photographic collage techniques by a poster design studio in Kolkata and features striking artwork.
Actress Madhabi Mukherjee is seen in a stunning close up photo in black and white on the top center with only her lips in color. The red lipstick she is depicted wearing stands out in stark contrast.
Typography used in this old movie poster is entirely in Bengali, with the title appearing in a very creatively styled font in white against an pastel olive background.
The soundtrack album of Godhuli Belay (1964) was composed by Manabendra Mukhopadhyay with songs sung by Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Sandhya Mukhopadhyay.
