Bollywood posters vintage for sale: Lagaam (1976).
Featured here is an original Bollywood poster of the old 1976 Hindi action drama directed by Desh Gautam that starred Vinod Khanna and Yogeeta Bali in key roles.
Produced by S.P. Malhotra & Pratap Singh and presented under the Silver Screen Enterprises banner, Lagaam (1976) also featured Bindu, Farida Jalal, Prem Chopra, Ram Mohan, Satyendra Kapoor, Dina Pathak, C.S. Dubey, V. Gopal, Jankidas, Sunil Dhawan and Uma Khosla in supporting roles.
Shot extensively at the Mudumalai National Park (a tiger reserve located in the Nilgiri Mountains of Tamil Nadu), Lagaam (1976) told the story of a fearless farmer called Bheema (Vinod Khanna) who fights against injustice imposed by wealthy landlords and moneylenders in his village. Living in poverty, he has to pull the plough along with the only bullock he has in order to till the land, while the corrupt and evil moneylender (Lala) is always tempting him to purchase another bullock by mortgaging his land. Wrongly accused, he is externed from his village, not before his mother places a locket around his neck as a promise to not raise his hands on anyone as long as he is wearing the same. The locket becomes a “lagaam” or a leash around his neck, reminding him to exercise restraint.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1976), this vintage Bollywood poster was issued for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Lagaam poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by master Bollywood poster artist V.G. Parchure of Pamart Studio fame, making it highly collectible. The printed signature of movie poster designer V.G. Parchure in the name of his art studio Pamart is seen on the bottom right of this vintage Bollywood poster.
Lead actor Vinod Khanna is seen in a stunning close up hand drawn illustration in this Lagaam movie poster. He is depicted in pop art style, with a surprised look on his face. Shades of blue and yellow have been used to highlight his face, giving this Bollywood poster vintage a stunning appearance.
Master Bollywood poster artist V.G. Parchure captures the likeness and accuracy of the superstar to perfection, while adding plenty of drama to the artwork. Actress Yogeeta Bali is seen riding on top of an elephant in a stick figure like illustration at the bottom right of this Vinod Khanna poster.
Typography used in this Bollywood posters vintage is minimal and entirely in English, with the large title illustrated in a 3D font in red, highlighted with a black border. The bottom half of this original Bollywood poster is intentionally kept minimal white, to make the lettering stand out in contrast.
The soundtrack album of Lagaam (1976) was composed by hit duo Kalyanji-Anandji. It featured the popular song, “Aadhi Aadhi Raat Meri Payaliya” sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi.
