Romantic Hindi movie poster for sale: Mere Huzoor (1968).
Featured here is an actual surviving rare vintage Bollywood poster of the 1968 Hindi romantic musical drama co-produced and directed by Vinod Kumar that starred Mala Sinha, Raaj Kumar and Jeetendra in lead roles.
Co-produced by Malik Chand Kochar and released under the Movie Mughals banner, Mere Huzoor (1968) also starred Johnny Walker, Indira, Zeb Rehman, Surekha, Madhumati, Laxmi Chhaya, K.N. Singh, David, Praveen Paul and Ram Mohan in supporting roles.
A love triangle, Mere Huzoor (1968) told the story of two friends, a commoner called Akhtar Hussain (Jeetendra) and a royal prince called Nawab Salim (Raaj Kumar), who fall in love with the same woman, Saltanat (Mala Sinha). Nawab Salim lives in a princely estate and owes his life to commoner Akhtar Hussain, who saved him from drowning after his boat capsized years ago. He invites Akhtar Hussain to live in his estate and employs him. While making his train journey, Akhtar Hussain sees Saltanat for the first time and is bedazzled by her beauty. The two fall in love with each other. However, unknown to Akhtar Hussain, Nawab Salim has also fallen for Saltanat’s beauty.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s / early 1980s), this romantic Hindi movie poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Mere Huzoor poster was originally designed by a poster art studio in Delhi using mixed media techniques. A combination of both hand painted oil on canvas art as well as over painting on photographs has been used in the design of this vintage Bollywood poster.
A striking overpainted photographic close up of actress Mala Sinha dressed as a bride is seen at the center. She is flanked by her two lovers, Raaj Kumar on the left and Jeetendra on the right. Both actors are illustrated in full length hand drawn portraits. The symmetry of the artwork and arrangement of the three portraits gives away the love triangle premise of the film. The architecture depicted in the background suggests the Muslim social drama aspect of the film.
Typography used in this Mere Huzoor poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the title appearing in a stylized 3D block at the bottom.
The soundtrack album of Mere Huzoor (1968) was composed by the hit duo Shankar–Jaikishan and featured memorable hits infused with classical tunes such as “Jhanak Jhanak Tori Baje Payaliya” sung by Manna Dey, which won him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1968. “Jo Guzar Rahi Hai Mujh Par” and “Rukh Se Zara Naqab Utha Do Mere Huzoor” sung by Mohammed Rafi were very popular tracks at the time of the film’s release.
