This was the second film by Manoj Kumar where he appeared as a character named “Bharat” or “India” (the first being Upkar) and his fourth film on patriotism (Shaheed, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan and Kranti). The name stuck on and Manoj Kumar is routinely referred to as “Bharat Kumar” till today.
Shot in London during the height of the hippie movement of the 1960s, Purab Aur Paschim captured the free spirited lifestyle of the British. The lead actress of the film, Saira Banu is cast as an Indian woman who has been westernized completely by living in the UK. She appears on screen smoking, drinking and wearing skimpy outfits, leading a life contrary to Indian culture and traditional values.
Purab Aur Paschim is said to have inspired the 2007 film Namastey London starring Akshay Kumar & Katrina Kaif. The remake pays tribute to the original through a dialog in the film, where Akshay Kumar tells Katrina Kaif that if she wants to learn more about India, she should see Purab Aur Paschim.
In the film, Manoj Kumar plays the son of a freedom fighter who goes to London for higher studies where he meets Saira Banu and a love story unfolds. Purab Aur Paschim captures the dramatic differences between cultures of the East and West and explores the idea of intercultural relationships.

Sharaabi (Drunkard) is a 1984 Hindi film produced and directed by Prakash Mehra. This was Prakash Mehra’s last hit and sixth in a row with superstar Amitabh Bachchan, the other five being Zanjeer, Hera Pheri, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Laawaris and Namak Halaal.
The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Prada, Pran, Om Prakash and Ranjeet. The film’s blockbuster music was composed by Bappi Lahiri, for which he bagged several awards. Sharaabi became a silver jubilee “Blockbuster” at the box office and went on to be another mega hit of superstar Amitabh Bachchan. This was also one of Amitabh’s last films before he temporarily gave up acting to venture into politics.
Songs like “Inteha Ho Gayi Intezaar Ki” sung by Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle and “De De Pyaar De” by Kishore Kumar became a rage and continue to be played till today.

The film also stars south India’s biggest superstar of all time, Rajinikanth (the second highest paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan), who plays the role of a police officer. South star Kamal Hassan also appears in the film, giving it an unbeatable star cast and making it a unique collaboration of three of the biggest superstars in India for the first time.
This poster was originally designed by painting over a still photograph, making it very collectable.

Amitabh appears laughing in the poster and a pistol with handcuffs hanging over its barrel is seen as a logo on the bottom. This poster was originally designed on a hand painted canvas by a small time art studio in Kolkata, making it very collectable.
The poster features a large, quirky hand drawn portrait of Sridevi dancing, surrounded by a wave of musical notes. Lead actor Jeetendra is shown alongside on the left in blue, while Amjad Khan is depicted at the bottom. The entire poster is designed and printed in two colors, i.e. red and blue, adding greatly to its quirk quotient.

A couple of songs from the film composed by Bappi Lahiri became hugely popular – “Nainon Mein Sapna” (sung by Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar) and “Taki O Taki” ( sung by Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle).
Inspired by the huge success of the film in 1983, Sajid Khan directed a recent remake of the film starring Ajay Devgan. The remake however, released in the year 2013, was a disaster at the box office.

Kati Patang (Cut Kite) is a 1970 hit Hindi film produced and directed by Shakti Samanta. The title of the film implies a kite whose string has been cut, causing it to drift without direction. The film is an adaptation of the novel, “I Married a Dead Man,” by Cornell Woolrich and a remake of a Hollywood film on the same subject called “No Man of Her Own (1950).”
The film was the second in a string of hits in which Shakti Samanta and Rajesh Khanna successfully collaborated.
The music of the film composed by Rahul Dev Burman became its highlight. One of the greatest singers in Bollywood, Kishore Kumar, sang four solos songs for Rajesh Khanna. Asha Bhosle sang the first ever Hindi rap number, “Mera Naam Hai Shabnam” in this film.
Songs from the film such as “Yeh Shaam Mastani,” “Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai” and “Pyar Deewana Hota Hai” have become evergreen classics and played till today.
