Madhubala posters for sale: Phagun (1958).
Beautiful hand drawn Bollywood poster of the old Hindi film Phagun (1958) for sale.
Phagun featured the most beautiful actress in Indian cinema of all time, the “Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood,” Madhubala in the lead role opposite Bharat Bhushan.
Printed and circulated subsequent to the first release of the film (somewhere in the 1960s), this old Madhubala poster for sale was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Phagun poster was originally designed in hand painted canvas format by a poster design studio in Kolkata, giving it a very quirky appearance. Madhubala is seen playing a flute with Bharat Bhushan holding her in his arms. She is seen again a solo hand drawn portrait alongside. The typography used in this poster is completely in English with the title appearing in a stunning red font. It is seen again translated into Devanagari Hindi at the bottom.
The soundtrack album of Phagun was composed by O. P. Nayyar, with songs sung entirely by Asha Bhosle. One of the songs from the film, “Ek Pardesi Mera Dil Le Gaya” became popular at the time of the film’s release and is fondly remembered till today.
Madhubala is considered the finest actress in Indian cinema. She is widely remembered as the first Indian actress to gain cult popularity outside India – appearing in an American magazine article entitled “The Biggest Star in the World – and she’s not in Beverly Hills.”
Madhubala appeared in over seventy films throughout her career and is routinely compared to Marilyn Monroe, having a similarly iconic position in Indian film history.
