Ram Aur Shyam poster for sale.
Old Bollywood poster for sale of the blockbuster Hindi film Ram Aur Shyam (1967).
This is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood poster of the 1967 super hit that featured Dilip Kumar in a double role for the first time. Considered as the greatest method actor in Indian cinema and often labeled as “tragedy king,” Dilip Kumar considers his double role performance in Ram Aur Shyam to be the most memorable in his entire career.
The film’s cast also included Pran, Waheeda Rehman, Mumtaz and Nirupa Roy in supporting roles.
Ram Aur Shyam was a trendsetting blockbuster Bollywood movie. It pioneered double roles in Indian cinema, spawning dozens of remakes, making this Dilip Kumar poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during the screening of the film in the late 1960s, this vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This rare Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format. Dilip Kumar is seen in a quirky hand drawn portrait in two separate illustrations, giving away the double role theme of the film. One of them appears meek with his head hung low, while the other appears powerful holding a whip in his hand. Typography used in this Ram Aur Shyam poster is a combination of both Devanagari Hindi as well as English, with a translation of the title appearing in Urdu as well.
An announcement of the top of this rare Bollywood poster reads, “Dilip Kumar In His First Dual Role.”
The original script of twin brothers who are separated at birth and later unite is said to be inspired from Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel “The Corsican Brothers.” This film was one of the first trendsetting double role films of its time, which spawned dozens of similar movies revolving around twins in Indian cinema.
