Taxi Driver poster for sale.
This is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the black and white 1954 Hindi film directed by Chetan Anand that starred his younger brother Dev Anand in the lead role.
Co-written by Chetan Anand’s wife Uma Anand and his younger brother Vijay Anand (Goldie Anand), Taxi Driver (1954) was produced by Anand’s home production, Navketan Films. The film also starred Kalpana Kartik, Sheila Ramani, Johnny Walker, Bhagwan Sinha, Patanjal, Shujju, Kamal Singh, Vernon Corke, Hamid Sayani, Rashid, Parveen Paul, Krishan Dhawan and M.A. Latif in supporting roles.
One of the most influential actors in Indian cinema, Dev Anand played the memorable character of a taxi driver called “Mangal” and “Hero” plying his 1947 Chevy Fleetmaster 4-door cab on the streets of Bombay. Sheila Ramani played an Anglo-Indian cabaret dancer who works at a nightclub, while Kalpana Kartik played an ambitious singer in the film.
Taxi Driver (1954) was one of the earliest cabbie films made in Indian cinema and helped establish Dev Anand as a romantic hero. He ended up marrying his co-star Kalpana Kartik while shooting for the film, making this Taxi Driver poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during a subsequent theatrical release run of the film in Delhi (somewhere in the 1970s), this Dev Anand movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bollywood posters Delhi print features striking hand drawn artwork. Originally hand painted on canvas by a Bollywood poster design studio in Delhi, this vintage Taxi Driver poster features lead actor Dev Anand in a bust sized illustration. He is seen leaning to one side in his iconic pose, wearing his trademark checkered jacket and muffler.
An old taxi meter with the label “For Hire” is seen below. Typography used in this old Bollywood poster is a mix of both Devanagari Hindi as well as English. The top half of this Taxi Driver poster features the title and credits in Hindi, whereas the bottom half uses English.
Pastel blue is used in the background on the top of this Taxi Driver poster. The English title is seen in a bright yellow shade, giving this old Bollywood poster a catchy appearance.
The soundtrack album of Taxi Driver (1954) was composed by one of the greatest music composers of all time in Indian cinema, S.D. Burman while lyrics were written by Sahir Ludhianvi. It featured the beautiful song, “Dil Se Milake Dil Pyar Kijiye” sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
