Jugnu movie poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1973 Hindi action drama produced and directed by Pramod Chakravorty that starred real life couple, Dharmendra and Hema Malini in key roles.
Released under the Pramod Films banner, Jugnu (1973) also starred Pran, Prem Chopra, Mehmood, Lalita Pawar, Jayshree T., Asha Potdar, Manmohan, Raj Mehra, Nazir Hussain, Kamal Kapoor, Brahm Bhardwaj and Dhumal in supporting roles. Ajit, Sujit Kumar and Sonia Sahni made special appearances in the film.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1973), this vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Jugnu (1973) told the story of a Robin Hood-like character called Ashok (Dharmendra). A master criminal with a heart of gold, Ashok commits daring robberies and spends his money on an orphanage. Seema (Hema Malini) falls in love with Ashok but her marriage has been arranged with millionaire Rai Bahadur’s (Nazir Hussain) grandson called Ramesh (Prem Chopra). Unknown to them, Ramesh is actually a decoy who works for a criminal cartel, while Ashok is the real grandson of Rai Bahadur and the sole heir to his wealthy estate.
This Jugnu movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bombay-based Bollywood poster design studio and features striking artwork.
Lead couple Dharmendra and Hema Malini are seen in a stunningly realistic hand painted illustration at the bottom. The chemistry between the two is vividly apparent and the couple are depicted romancing in a garden. Dharmendra’s smile has been captured beautifully with expert brush strokes in this fabulous rendition. The actor is seen again in a smaller photographic avatar hanging on a chandelier on the top right of this Jugnu poster.
A minimalist background is used in this vintage Bollywood poster, making the artwork in the foreground stand out in contrast. Typography used in this vintage Bollywood poster is primarily in English, with the title translated to Devanagari Hindi as well at the bottom. The main English title on the top appears in red with three borders – white, orange and yellow, which together give it a 3D effect.
The soundtrack album of Jugnu (1973) was composed by master composer S.D. Burman, while lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. It featured two beautiful tracks – “Jane Kya Pilaya Tune” sung by Lata Mangeshkar and “Gir Gaya Jhumka Girne Do” sung by Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar.
The success of Jugnu (1973) inspired a regional remake called Guru (1980), which was released in both Tamil as well as Telugu.
