Baba Ramdev poster for sale.
Featured here is a rare surviving original vintage Indian cinema poster of the old 1963 black and white devotional Rajasthani film directed by Manibhai Vyas that starred Mahipal in the titular role of Ramdeo Pir.
Written by Naval Mathur and produced by Ramraj Nahata, Baba Ramdev (1963) also starred Anita Guha, Ratna Bhushan, Lalita Desai, B.M. Vyas, Mohan Modi, Master Anwar, Baby Shobha, Madhumati and Sarita in supporting roles.
Released under the Ranglok banner, Baba Ramdev (1963) was based on the life of revered Hindu deity Ramdeo Pir. A fourteenth or fifteenth century Rajput saint, Ramdeo Pir was believed to have miraculous powers. He devoted his life towards uplifting the socially marginalized and underprivileged. Regarded by Hindu devotees as an avatar of Lord Krishna, Ramdeo Pir is widely worshiped and remains an integral part of Rajasthan’s folk traditions.
Printed and circulated during the release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1960s), this old Rajasthani movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Baba Ramdev poster was designed using hand painted art techniques by a Bollywood poster art studio in Delhi and features striking artwork.
Ramdeo Pir is often depicted riding a horse in early paintings and statues, something that is also seen in this Baba Ramdev movie poster. He is depicted with his palm raised in the aashirwad (blessing) gesture, signifying that he bestows blessings upon all. Anita Guha who plays the role of Ramdev Pir’s wife, princess Netal (sometimes also spelled as Netalde or Naital) is seen in a close up illustration on the bottom left of this vintage Rajasthani movie poster. Two miracles associated with Ramdeo Pir’s ministry are seen depicted in the background on the top left and right respectively.
Typography used in this poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the title seen in red against a white background, creating maximum impact.
The soundtrack album of Baba Ramdev (1963) was composed by Pandit Shivram, while lyrics were written by Bharat Vyas.
