Rare original 30th anniversary release Bollywood movie poster of the epic Hindi film Sholay (1975) for sale.

On August 13, 2004, an enhanced version of Sholay was released to coincide with its 30th anniversary in the coming year. This is an original two sheet Bollywood movie poster printed and circulated during the enhanced re-release of Sholay – the greatest film ever made in Indian cinema. Printed and circulated in 2004, this poster was originally designed for publicity of the 30th anniversary re-release of the film but never ended up being used.

This poster was localized to be distributed to five select cinema halls in Kolkata, and bears their names on a black strip at the bottom.

Two sheet posters comprise two separate individual single sheet posters measuring 40″x30″ inches each. When pasted together they line up perfectly and together form one single two sheet poster. In the image shown alongside, there may be a slight gap visible between the two – as the images of the top and bottom half have been photographed individually and then joined together digitally. When framed or pasted, there will be no gap visible between the two sheets and the appearance of the poster would be seamless – i.e. just like a single sheet poster.

Sholay is the highest grossing film of all time in Indian cinema and unanimously regarded as the greatest film ever made in Bollywood. Declared as the “Film of the Millennium” by BBC India in 1999, Sholay is an unforgettable classic that has become almost synonymous with ‘masala’ in Indian cinema. Its characters such as Jai, Veeru, Basanti, Thakur & Gabbar Singh have been etched into history. The film has an unbeaten record for running for over five consecutive years after being released. A 3-D version of this film is on its way for release. Sholay enjoys a cult following in India and its dialogues are often quoted in various media.

Large hand painted old Bollywood movie poster of the patriotic Hindi film Inquilaab (1984) for sale.

This is an actual surviving two sheet vintage Bollywood poster of the 1984 classic, which featured the greatest superstar of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan in the title role.

This two sheet poster measures a stunning 60″x40″ inches in size when its two individual sheets are joined or pasted together. The poster comprises two separate single sheets, each measuring 40″x30″ inches.

Printed and circulated a few years after the first release of the film (somewhere in the late 1980s/early 1990s), this old hand drawn Hindi cinema two sheet poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

Inquilaab was a patriotic film deliberately released in 1984 to coincide with superstar Amitabh Bachchan's entry into politics in the same year, making this poster highly collectible!

This large original Bollywood poster was originally designed on a hand drawn canvas by a small time art studio in Kolkata, further increasing its collectible as well as quirk quotient.

In this old Amitabh movie poster, a large hand painted portrait of the superstar is seen with his fist clenched in the air. A quirky hand drawn mugshot of Sridevi appears on the bottom left of the poster. This simplistic hand drawn old Amitabh poster is set against a modest black background and the title of the film appears in three different languages, namely English, Devanagari Hindi and Bengali.

Quirky hand painted old Bollywood movie poster of the Hindi film Hamrahi (1963) for sale.

This is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood poster of the 1963 film, which featured “Jubilee Kumar,” actor Rajendra Kumar along with Mehmood & Shubha Khote.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film (somewhere in the 1960s), this quirky hand painted old Hindi movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

Very rare item. Only a few posters available in stock!

This poster was originally designed in hand painted format on canvas using oil paints, making it very collectable. On the top left of the poster, three black and white still photos from the film are seen, each a close up mugshot of the lead actors from the film. The topmost still photograph appears cropped – most probably an error in design or printing.

The bottom of this beautiful hand painted poster features a very quirky painting of one of the most successful comedians in Bollywood, Mehmood. Typography in the poster is seen both in English as well as Devanagari Hindi.

This minimalistic hand painted old Hindi film poster is set against a white background.

This poster has been graded as ★ AI (As Is) due to a small hole that can be clearly seen from the adjoining photograph (circular shaped hole on the black and white photo still on the left of the poster). Besides this small missing piece, the poster is overall in fair condition and display worthy.

Hamrahi (1963) is a Hindi film starring Rajendra Kumar, Mehmood, Shubha Khote, Jamuna & Lalita Pawar

Actor Rajendra Kumar earned the moniker “Jubilee Kumar” due to the widespread success of his films in the 1960s (most of his films crossed the silver jubilee mark).

Old Bollywood poster of the blockbuster Hindi film Sharaabi (1984) for sale.

This is an actual surviving vintage poster of the 1984 film that featured the greatest superstar of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.

Printed and circulated a few years after the first release of the film, this movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This old Amitabh movie poster was originally designed by cutting out images of actors from separate still photographs (shot on set location) and pasting them on a board. The typography is hand drawn / hand painted, which makes this poster an interesting mix of two very different design techniques.

The poster features a large cut out photograph of Amitabh Bachchan holding a glass of whiskey (typifying his character as an alcoholic in the film), with a still photo of lead actress Jaya Prada (who plays a singer in the film) on the top. The typography used in this poster is entirely in English.

Sharaabi (Drunkard) is a 1984 Hindi film produced and directed by Prakash Mehra. This was Prakash Mehra’s last hit and sixth in a row with superstar Amitabh Bachchan, the other five being Zanjeer, Hera Pheri, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Laawaris and Namak Halaal.

The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Prada, Pran, Om Prakash and Ranjeet. The film’s blockbuster music was composed by Bappi Lahiri, for which he bagged several awards. Sharaabi became a silver jubilee “Blockbuster” at the box office and went on to be another mega hit of superstar Amitabh Bachchan. This was also one of Amitabh’s last films before he temporarily gave up acting to venture into politics.

Songs like “Inteha Ho Gayi Intezaar Ki” sung by Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle and “De De Pyaar De” by Kishore Kumar became a rage and continue to be played till today.
