Dara Singh poster for sale of the old Indian mythological movie, Veer Bhimsen (1985).

This is an actual surviving original Dara Singh movie poster of the 1985 Hindi film that was based on the story of the Mahabharata (one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India), highlighting the might of Bhima.

Directed by Sushil Vyas, Veer Bhimsen starred wrestler Dara Singh in the lead role as Bhima and Anjana Mumtaz as Draupadi.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film (somewhere in the mid 1980s), this old Indian cinema poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This old Indian mythological movie poster features an interesting combination technique in the design of its artwork. Still photographs have been over painted with striking colors, giving this old Mahabharata poster a vivid appearance.

This old Indian cinema poster features the legendary “Gada Yudh” or “Mace War” between Bhima and Duryodhana. Dara Singh is seen prominently in the poster carrying a Gada (mace) and sparring with Duryodhana, while an epic battle ensues in the background. The top of the poster features a line in Devanagari Hindi that translates as, “Made by the effort of millions, An epic religious film.”

As per the Mahabharata, Bhima is the second born among five brothers (Pandavas). During the great Kurukshetra war, Bhima single handedly killed hundred Kaurava brothers and was believed to possess the physical strength of 10,000 elephants.

The word Bhima in Sanskrit means “big” or “tall” and Dara Singh was aptly chosen to essay his role in the film. With over 500 professional fights to his credit – all undefeated – Dara Singh was awarded the titles “Rustum-e-Punjab” and “Rustum-e-Hind.” In an acting career that spanned over five decades, Dara Singh featured in over 140 films.

Sippy and directed by Bhappi Sonie, Brahmachari also starred Rajshree, Pran, Mumtaz, Junior Mehmood, Jagdeep, Sachin and Asit Sen in supporting roles. This old Bollywood poster features a quirky hand drawn design, which is typical of the old school movie poster design studios in Delhi. Shammi Kapoor and Rajshree are seen in an embrace, prominently at the center of this old Hindi movie poster. The title of the film appears in Devanagari Hindi font on the bottom. Quirky hand draw renditions of Mumtaz, Junior Mehmood and Pran are seen at the bottom of this artwork movie poster. Actor Pran’s face has been hand dawn with a lot of character, which is typical of the style used by old movie poster painters in Delhi to depict villainy.

This old Bollywood poster hand drawn by an art studio and printed in Delhi capitalizes on the massive success of the soundtrack of the film. The top left of the poster features lyrics of a smash hit song from the film sung by Mohammed Rafi and written by Hasrat Jaipuri, “Dil Ke Jharoke Mein Tujhko Bithakar; Yaadon Ko Teri Main Dulhan Banakar; Rakhunga Main Dil Ke Paas; Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udaas.”

Indian adult movie poster for sale of the old Hindi film, Garam Bazaar (2000).

This is an actual surviving old Indian erotic movie poster of the Hindi adult film that starred Miss Bharthi in the lead role.

Printed and circulated during the initial release run of the film (somewhere in the early 2000s), this old Bollywood adult film poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This old Hindi adult film poster is a classic example of borderline titillation and suggestive poses used in the advertising of Indian adult movies. With strict censor board guidelines and restrictions in India, Bollywood adult films have to ride the thin line between luring consumers and risking a complete ban on advertising.

This Indian erotic movie poster uses an interesting design technique – trading nudity for suggestion. The adult “A” rating grade of the film is seen prominently on the left.

The word “Sex” is seen overwritten on a suggestive photograph on the top, with the completed phrase “… and the India woman” appearing below.
