Historical movie poster for sale: Amar Singh Rathaur (1956).
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood movie poster of the 1956 black and white Hindi drama directed by Jaswant Jhaveri that starred Paidi Jairaj and Nirupa Roy in key roles.
Produced by Gouri Shankar Goel and released under the Dinesh Films banner, Amar Singh Rathaur (1956) also starred Helen, Murad, Ram Singh, Ramesh Sinha, Sunder, Al Nasir, Yashodhara Katju, Ratnamala and Veena in supporting roles.
Shot extensively in Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, Amar Singh Rathaur (1956) was based on the real life story of a Rajput warrior by the same name who is remembered for his exemplary bravery.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release of the film in Delhi (somewhere in the 1960s), this vintage historical movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a film poster art studio in Delhi.
A full length hand drawn portrait of P. Jairaj who plays the titular role of Amar Singh Rathaur is seen illustrated on the right of the poster. He is depicted holding a sword, dressed in royal attire. Actress Nirupa Roy, who plays princess Chandrawati in the movie, is seen in a stunning side profile close up portrait in the background.
Pastel shades of blue are used in the background of this old hand drawn Bollywood poster. Striking hues of red and yellow used in the foreground stand out in stark contrast.
Typography used in this original historical movie poster is primarily in English, with the title seen translated both in Devanagari Hindi as well as Urdu. The English title of the film is seen in a striking shade of red with a white border, making it stand out.
The soundtrack album of Amar Singh Rathaur (1956) was composed by Sanmukh Babu, while lyrics were written by Pandit Bharat Vyas. One of the tracks from the film, “Chori Chori Mat Dekho” sung by Manna Dey and Sudha Malhotra became very popular at the time of it’s release.
