Bollywood posters for room: Gaai Aur Gori (1973).
Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1973 Hindi drama directed by M.A. Thirumugam that starred Jaya Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha in lead roles.
Produced by Sandow M.M.A. Chinnappa Devar and released under the Devar banner, Gaai Aur Gori (1973) also starred Bindu, Sulochana Latkar and Manmohan in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1973), this Gaai Aur Gori poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Gaai Aur Gori was based on the story of a girl named Gauri who has a pet cow. It was a remake of Tamil film Komatha En Kulamatha (1973).
This original Bollywood poster has been designed using a combination of both hand painted as well as photographic over-painted techniques. Actress Jaya Bachchan is seen in a striking over-painted still photo, lifting a matka (earthen pot over her head). Actor Shatrughan Sinha is seen on his knees touching her ankle with one hand. A pet cow, key to the film’s plot, is seen sitting at the entrance of a beautiful mansion styled home in the background.
Typography used in this Gaai Aur Gori movie poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with a translation of the title appearing on the top right in both English as well as Urdu.
The soundtrack album of Gaai Aur Gori was composed by ace music compose duo Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. One of the songs from the film, “Gori O Gori Prem Karle” sung by Kishore Kumar became popular at the time of the film’s release.
