This is an actual surviving vintage original Bollywood poster of the 1976 Hindi film that starred the greatest superstar in Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan along with Vinod Khanna in key roles.

Directed by Prakash Mehra, the pioneer of “masala genre” in Indian cinema, Hera Pheri (1976) also starred Saira Banu, Sulakshana Pandit, Shreeram Lagoo, Asrani, P. Jairaj, Mac Mohan, Goga Kapoor, Padma Khanna and Tun Tun in supporting roles.

Printed and circulated during a subsequent theatrical release run of the film in Delhi (somewhere in the 1980s), this Hera Pheri movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

Originally hand drawn on canvas by a Bollywood poster design studio in Delhi, this vintage Hera Pheri movie poster features large faces of Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna on the top. Illustrated with broad brush strokes to give the two stars a “macho effect,” the portraits are seen mirroring each other in symmetry, with both actors firing pistols.

The two lead stars, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna appear in a quirky portrait at the bottom, grappling with one another.

The lead actresses are seen in quirky hand drawn renditions below. Saira Banu is seen at the center while Sulakshana Pandit is seen on the left of this hand drawn Bollywood poster. Both actresses are depicted with ample cleavage visible, as is the norm with old Bollywood posters in Delhi.

Lettering used in this Amitabh Bachchan film poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi. The title of this Hera Pheri movie poster is seen written in yellow with a red outline, giving it a catchy appearance. Flames are seen on the top in streaks of yellow and orange, adding to the visual appeal of this old hand drawn Bollywood poster.

The soundtrack album of Hera Pheri was composed by hit duo Kalyanji Anandji, while lyrics were penned by Anjaan and Indeevar. The sensuous cabaret song from the album, “Aapka Sarkar Kya Kuch Kho Gaya Hai” sung by Asha Bhosle became popular at the time of the film’s release, as did “Mujhe Pyar Mein Khat Kisi Ne Likha Hai” sung by Asha Bhosle and “Waqt Ki Hera Pheri Hai” sung by Kishore Kumar and Mahendra Kapoor.

Hera Pheri is one of six films that starred two of the reigning action superstars, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna together. Rama Krishnulu (1978) released in Telugu was inspired by Hera Pheri.
