Hand painted Bollywood movie posters for sale: Sawaal (1982).

This is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1982 Hindi drama produced by Yash Chopra that starred Shashi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar in lead roles, opposite Poonam Dhillon and Waheeda Rehman respectively.

Directed by Ramesh Talwar, Sawaal (1982) also starred Randhir Kapoor, Swaroop Sampat, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri, Helen, Kalpana Iyer, Padma Khanna, Manmohan Krishna, Mac Mohan and Avtar Gill in supporting roles.

Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1982), this hand painted Bollywood movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

Originally designed by the most sought after Bollywood poster painting studio in Bombay, Studio Diwakar, this Sawaal poster features a striking design in a myriad of colors. Designed by the highest paid Bollywood poster artist of all time, Diwakar Karkare, this original Bollywood poster features his printed signature on the bottom left.

This vintage Bollywood poster has been designed in mixed media format, i.e. using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas format techniques as well as photographic collage.

A stunning side profile illustration of actor Sanjeev Kumar is seen on the top left. His face is painted in striations of rainbow colors, representative of the multiple shades in his character in the film. He plays “Dhanpat Rai Mehta,” one of the most powerful smugglers in the country who is also a husband to a loving wife as well as a protective father of two. The portrait captures the diversity in his persona brilliantly.

Shashi Kapoor, who plays a police officer in Sawaal (1982), is seen holding a gun in a realistic rendition on the bottom right of this hand painted Bollywood movie poster.

Smaller photographic stills are seen pasted on the bottom left of this Sawaal movie poster. Shashi Kapoor is seen trying to wrestle away a dagger from the hands of villain Mac Mohan, while actresses Helen and Kalpana Iyer are seen in cabaret dance stills from songs in the film.

Typography used in this Bollywood poster is entirely in English with the title seen in red in a 3D styled font.

The soundtrack album of Sawaal (1982) was composed by Khayyam and lyrics were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. One of the cabaret songs from the film, “Dilruba Hoon Dilruba” sung by Asha Bhosle became popular at the time of the film’s release.
