The Gold Medal poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1984 Hindi crime drama directed by Ravikant Nagaich that starred Jeetendra and Rakhee Gulzar in key roles.
Produced by Sham Behl and presented by Premnath under the Time Films banner, The Gold Medal (1984) also starred Shatrughan Sinha, Premnath, K.N. Singh, Jagdish Raj, David, Bindu, Jayshree T., Sunder, Brahm Bhardwaj, Faryal and Rajkavi Inderjeet Singh Tulsi in supporting roles. Dharmendra made a special appearance in the film.
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1984), this vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
The Gold Medal (1984) told the story of a notorious gang that has brought the country to the brink of ruin by it’s anti-national activities. When labor union leader Acharya (Dharmendra) is murdered, a probe is conducted. The chief of secret services Mr. David (David) comes to know about the existence of a dangerous gang working against the interest of the country. He deputes a promising young officer called Gopal (Jeetendra) to uncover the nefarious activities of the gang responsible and establish the identity of it’s leader. However, before Gopal can make any headway, he is trapped by the gang in a false charge of murdering a dancer of Eagle nightclub (Bindu). Mr. David asks Gopal to take advantage of the situation and join the gang under the pretext of saving himself from the law. However, to prove himself trustworthy to the gang, Gopal is tasked with killing his own boss, Mr. David. Will Gopal be able to convince the gang and get to it’s boss, crime lord Thakur Randhir Singh (Premnath)?
This Gold Medal poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bombay based Bollywood poster design studio and features stunning artwork.
Jeetendra is seen in a hand painted portrait on the top wearing a pin striped suit and holding a pistol in his hand. Bundles of currency notes and coins are seen in the background behind him. Shatrughan Sinha is illustrated holding a cigarette in one hand and a gun in the other below, followed by Dharmendra in his character of a labor union leader at the bottom.
Actor Premnath appears illustrated in a fiery tone of red and orange on the bottom left, talking over the phone. He is flanked by actress Rakhee on the bottom right, who is depicted wearing a dupatta over her head. An action sequence that depicts a classic car running over a man is hand drawn at the bottom center.
A minimalist background is used in this old Bollywood poster, making the artwork in the foreground stand out in contrast. Typography used in this vintage Bollywood poster is primarily in English, with the title translated to Devanagari Hindi at the bottom. The main English title on the top appears in red with a yellow border, using a gold medal instead of the letter O.
The soundtrack album of The Gold Medal (1984) was composed by hit duo Shankar Jaikishan.
