Curry western movies poster for sale: Wanted Dead or Alive (1984).
Featured here is an original vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1984 Indian western Hindi film directed by Ambrish Sangal that starred Mithun Chakraborty, Shammi Kapoor and Tina Munim (Tina Ambani) in key roles.
Wanted Dead or Alive (1984) was a western styled classic action film produced by Shyam Sunder Shivdasani and released under the banner of Murghan Enterprises. Om Shivpuri, Mazhar Khan, Mac Mohan, Krishan Dhawan, Asrani and Heena Kausar played supporting roles in the film, while actress Deepti Naval made a special appearance.
Wanted Dead or Alive (1984) told the story of an infamous outlaw called Vikram (Mithun Chakraborty). A gold train arrives at it’s destined station with all it’s occupants shot dead and the gold missing. Among the policemen killed is inspector Dinesh (Krishan Dhawan). His daughter Neeta (Tina Munim) vows to avenge her father’s death. Police suspect the crime to be the work of outlaw Vikram who did time for a similar crime that happened three years ago. When Neeta learns this, she takes up the job of a dancer at a Western saloon run by Albert (Asrani) that Vikram frequents. Upon meeting him, she pretends to fall in love and gains his trust, waiting for the opportune moment to kill him and avenge her father’s death. When her chance finally arrives, Vikram reveals that he is not the man she is looking for but rather a crime lord called Kehar Singh (Om Shivpuri). He is the same man who murdered Vikram’s wife Angela (Deepti Naval) and turned his entire life upside down, pushing him from an honest forest officer to an outlaw.
Printed and circulated during the first theatrical release of the film (somewhere in 1984), this curry western movies poster was made for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Wanted Dead or Alive poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by the king of VHS cover designs, Chandrakant of Bombay based Chandrakant Studio fame.
A stunningly realistic hand drawn illustration of lead actor Mithun Chakraborty is seen prominently in this cowboy movie poster. He is seen wearing a cowboy hat, with pistols drawn in each hand. The portrait has been captured with a slanted perspective, adding depth to the artwork.
The background of this curry western movies poster is minimal, using a striking shade of orange which makes the artwork stand out. Typography used in this Indian western movie poster is primarily in English, with the title translated to Devanagari Hindi as well. Both titles have been illustrated in yellow with a purple border, set against a black background. A highly creative newsprint design style has been used in the title design, with random handwritten text resembling a newspaper appearing inside each letter.
The soundtrack album of Wanted Dead or Alive (1984) was composed by disco king Bappi Lahiri, while lyrics were written by Anjaan. It featured the creative song, “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” sung by Kishore Kumar featuring Shammi Kapoor and Tina Munim. The lyrics of the song were a compilation of various film titles in which superstar Shammi Kapoor starred in during the course of his illustrious film career such as Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1957), Dil Deke Dekho (1959), Dil Tera Diwana (1962), Junglee (1961), Janwar 1965 and Budtameez (1966).
“Raat Aaye Raat Jaye” sung by Bappi Lahiri and Asha Bhosle was a peppy duet from the film that became popular at the time of it’s release.
