Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the old 1981 Hindi film directed by Rakesh Kumar that starred the biggest superstar of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.

Produced by F.A. Nadiadwala and presented by H.A. Nadiadwala, Yaarana (1981) also starred Amjad Khan, Neetu Singh, Tanuja, Aruna Irani, Jeevan, Kader Khan, Ranjeet, Viju Khote, Sulochana, Lalita Pawar, Agha and Mohan Sherry in supporting roles.

Inspired by India’s greatest epic, the Mahabharata, the story of Yaarana (1981) was modeled along Karna and Duryodhana’s friendship, with Amitabh Bachchan and Amjad Khan reprising their respective roles.

Yaarana (1981) featured the smash hit song, “Sara Zamana Haseeno Ka Deewana” which was filmed at Nethaji Subhash Stadium Calcutta. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan wore a specially designed suit covered with light bulbs that was wired to an electrical socket and performed in front of 50,000 fans in the stadium which had a maximum capacity of only 12,000.

Printed and circulated during the initial release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the early 1980s), this Yaarana poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This Amitabh Bachchan old movie poster was originally designed in mixed media format by a Bollywood poster design studio in Bombay and bears the signature of the artist Krishna Parar on the bottom right.

The foreground of this original Yaarana poster has been designed in photographic collage format, while the background features hand painted artwork.

It features four striking still photos of superstar Amitabh Bachchan, captured from various songs and scenes in the film. A full length photograph of the actor is seen at the center taken from the iconic song, “Sara Zamana Haseeno Ka Deewana” in which he is dressed in a black suit covered with light bulbs. Another still taken from the same song, in which the superstar is seen in a white suit appears pasted alongside on the left of this old Bollywood poster.

Two still photos of Amitabh Bachchan and Neetu Singh taken from the song, “Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahan” are seen below. A still from the climax in which the superstar is seen holding a machine gun is seen on the bottom right of this vintage Yaarana poster.

The background of this Amitabh movie poster features a mix of different hues with several stars, highlighting the character played by the superstar who is a singer/performer in the film.

Typography used in this original Amitabh Bachchan movie poster is primarily in English, with only the title translated to Devanagari Hindi. The title is illustrated in in an eye catching yellow hue, accentuated with a black border.

The soundtrack album of Yaarana (1981) was composed by Rajesh Roshan, while lyrics were written by Anjaan. It was a blockbuster upon it’s release, giving Indian cinema unforgettable classics such as “Saara Zamaana Haseeno Ka Deewana,” “Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahan” and “Chookar Mere Man Ko” all sung by the greatest playback singer in Bollywood, Kishore Kumar.
