Devta movie poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1956 mythical drama directed by Pattana that starred Vyjayanthimala, Gemini Ganesan and Anjali Devi in lead roles.
A remake of the Tamil film Kanavane Kankanda Deivam (1955), Devta (1956) also starred Agha, Bipin Gupta, Krishna Kumari, M. N. Nambiar, Daisy Irani and Indira in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the film’s subsequent release run in Kolkata (somewhere in the 1960s), this Devta movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a movie poster design studio in Kolkata, this Vyjayanthimala poster features a striking design in strong, vivid colors.
Vyjayanthimala is seen in a stunning illustration, in her character of serpent queen in this Devta movie poster. She is depicted wearing a crown of serpents, while a large snake is seen in the background behind her. King of romance of Tamil cinema, actor Gemini Ganesan is seen embracing actress Anjali Devi in a smaller hand drawn rendition at the bottom.
Strong vivid colors are seen dominating this old Bollywood poster, making it extremely catchy and appealing. Typography used in this Devta movie poster is primarily in Devanagari Hindi, with a translation of the title appearing in English as well as Urdu at the bottom. The production house under whose banner the film has been released is credited at the bottom as “Narayanan Company Pictures.”
The soundtrack album of Devta (1956) was composed by C. Ramchandra – his last collaboration with the “Nightingale of India,” the greatest female playback singer in Indian cinema, Lata Mangeshkar. The album is fondly remembered for gems such as “Ae Chand Kal Jo Aana,” “Soona Hai Mere Dil Ka Jahan” and “Zalim Tere Aankhon Ne” all sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
