Raj Kapoor movie poster for sale: Andaz (1949).
Featured here is an original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1949 romantic Hindi film directed by Mehboob Khan that starred the hit pair of Raj Kapoor and Nargis along with Dilip Kumar in a love triangle.
V.H. Desai, Cuckoo Moray, Murad, Anwari Bai, Amir Banoo, Jamshedji, Abbas, Wasker, Abdul and Dyke (child artist) also starred in Andaz (1949) in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the film’s screening in theaters (somewhere in the 1950s), this Raj Kapoor movie poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Andaz (1949) was a blockbuster hit, becoming the highest grossing film in the history of Indian cinema until Raj Kapoor’s Barsaat was released subsequently in the same year breaking it’s record.
Andaz is the only film in the history of Indian cinema to feature “Showman” Raj Kapoor and the “Emperor of Acting” Dilip Kumar together, making this vintage Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
This Andaz movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a poster design studio in Bombay. A stunning portrait of Dilip Kumar locked in an embrace with Nargis is seen at the center. The actress is seen clutching a photo frame of her deceased father in her hand. A beautiful illustration of Raj Kapoor in a brooding pose is seen on the right.
As is typical of vintage hand painted Bollywood posters, lighting is used to highlight the three faces, with the source of illumination depicted from the sky above. A gradient is seen in the background of this old Raj Kapoor movie poster on the top, while the bottom is a minimal white.
Typography used in this vintage Andaz poster is primarily in Devanagari Hindi, with a translation of the title seen in English as well as in Urdu. The main Devanagari Hindi title of the film appears at the bottom in a stunning hand drawn font in red.
The soundtrack album of Andaz (1949) was composed by legendary music composer Naushad, while lyrics were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. It featured gems such as “Jhoom Jhoom Ke Nacho Aaj” & “Hum Aaj Kahin Dil Kho Baithe” sung by Mukesh and “Koi Mere Dil Mein” sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
