Featured here is an old Bollywood poster of the old 1974 mythological Hindi drama produced and directed by Chandrakant that starred award winning wrestler turned actor Dara Singh in the lead role as Lord Shiva.

An adaptation of the story of Lord Shiva as narrated in the old Sanskrit text of the “Shivpuran,” Har Har Mahadev (1974) also starred Jayshree Gadkar, Shahu Modak, Padma Khanna, Uma, Aruna Irani, Sujata, Gopi Kishen, Satyajeet Puri, Abhi Bhattacharya, Randhawa, Asit Sen and Babu Raje in supporting roles.

Released under the Joy Films banner, Har Har Mahadev (1974) was one among several mythological movies that featured worldwide-undefeated wrestler turned Bollywood star, Dara Singh.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1974), this Har Har Mahadev movie poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This old Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by popular Bollywood movie poster artist/painter G.R. Kareker from New Cine Service art studio. His signature is seen on the bottom left of this vintage mythological poster.

Dara Singh is depicted in a beautiful over painted portrait as Lord Shiva, with a snake wrapped around his neck and a trishul on his back. He is seen in a meditative pose seated in a glacier ice cave in the background of this Hindu mythology film poster.

The foreground shows a striking illustration of Kamadeva, the Hindu god of sensual love and desire, dancing with his consort Rati. The dance is intended to disrupt the meditation of Shiva and to lure him away from asceticism towards marriage with Parvati.

Noted Bollywood poster painter G.R. Kareker captures the sensual dance beautifully, maintaining likeness and detail in the portraits. Gopi Krishna and Padma Khanna, who play Kamadeva and Rati respectively, are seen illustrated brilliantly in the foreground of this Har Har Mahadev movie poster.
