Featured here is an old Bollywood poster of the 1991 classic Hindi film produced, co-written and directed by Subhash Ghai that starred the ultimate method actor of Bollywood, Dilip Kumar along with Raaj Kumar in key roles.
Released under the Mukta Arts banner, Saudagar (1991) also starred Manisha Koirala, Vivek Mushran, Amrish Puri, Gulshan Grover, Anupam Kher, Jackie Shroff, Dalip Tahil, Deepti Naval, Dina Pathak, Pallavi Joshi, Archana Puran Singh, Shubha Khote and Govind Namdev in supporting roles.
An adaption of Romeo and Juliet, Saudagar (1991) marked the reunion of Bollywood legends Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar, who previously appeared together on screen in Paigham (1959). The film marked the debut of Vivek Mushran and Manisha Koirala, winning director Subhash Ghai his only Filmfare Best Director Award.
Saudagar (1991) was legendary actor Dilip Kumar’s penultimate film and last box office success, making this old Bollywood poster, highly collectible.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1990s), this Saudagar poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
The two veteran stars of the film, Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar are seen in a brilliant hand painted rendition on the top. Their full figure portraits are seen painted amidst a riot of colors and the camaraderie between them is very evident. A smaller photographic still taken from a song in the movie is seen at the bottom of this Dilip Kumar film poster.
The soundtrack album of Saudagar (1991) was composed by Laxmikant–Pyarelal, while lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. It was a blockbuster with unforgettable songs such as “Ilu Ilu” and “Imli Ka Boota.”
