Artist Diwakar Karkare’s signature style and mastery over the paint brush is evident in the captivating artwork of these old Bollywood cinema showcards. Credited with designing most of Amitabh Bachchan’s old movies posters, Diwakar paints Amitabh’s face flawlessly using two different textures – one a more rugged and macho portrait in an action packed setting; and a second more softer style to capture him in his romantic best opposite Rekha in this stunning rare picture painted showcard. Villains Ajit, Amjad Khan and Prem Chopra are seen in stunning portraits on one of the showcards as well.
Released in 1980, Ram Balram starred Dharmendra as “Ram” and Amitabh Bachchan as “Balram.” Zeenat Aman and Rekha were paired opposite the two, while Ajit, Amjad Khan and Prem Chopra were cast as villains in the film. The film marked the third successful venture of Bollywood’s biggest superstars of the time, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, who previously were seen in Chupke Chupke and the cult classic, Sholay.
Ram Balram was released at the time when Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s rumored secret affair had received widespread publicity. In the following year, the cult romantic classic Silsila was released, making it the last film to feature Rekha opposite Amitabh Bachchan.

This fabulous six sheet poster measures a stunning 120″x60″ inches (approx) in size when its six individual sheets are joined or pasted together. The poster comprises six separate single sheets, each measuring 40″x30″ inches. When pasted together they line up perfectly and together form one single six sheet poster. As shown in the photograph, there may be a slight gap visible between the six sheets – as the images have been photographed individually and then joined together digitally. When framed or pasted, there will be no gap visible between the six sheets and the appearance of the poster would be seamless – i.e. just like a single sheet poster.

This is an actual surviving original first release movie poster of the 1979 Bollywood film that is unanimously considered to be the greatest comedy film ever made in Indian cinema.
Printed and circulated somewhere in the late 1970s during the original first release run of the film, this rare Bollywood poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This poster was originally designed on a hand painted canvas by Bollywood’s greatest movie poster designer, Diwakar Karkare. It bears Diwakar’s printed signature on the bottom right hand corner. Typical of Diwakar’s art style and fantastic realism, the poster features Amol Palekar in his original avatar (sans mustache) in a portrait on the top. Actress Bindiya Goswami is seen in a superbly hand painted avatar alongside. Interestingly, to signify the double role plot of the film, Amol Palekar’s face appears painted on a mask (with a mustache) at the bottom. A photographic still of Utpal Dutt is seen on the top of this Diwakar masterpiece.

Gol Maal (Forgery or Deception) is a 1979 blockbuster comedy film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, starring actor Amol Palekar in a double role. The film won high accolades from critics and went on to become a cult film in the history of Indian cinema.
Considered to be the greatest comedy film ever made in Bollywood, Gol Maal’s dialogues and characters have spawned hundreds of spoofs, which are popular till today on television shows and radio stations.
Owing to its mega popularity, the film was later remade in several languages such as Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The 2012 Hindi film Bol Bachchan is also believed to be inspired from Gol Maal.
