Featured here is a rare original Hollywood movie poster of the blockbuster 1984 sci-fi action film co-written and directed by Hollywood’s most successful and innovative filmmaker, James Cameron, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as “The Terminator.” Linda Hamilton played the role of Sarah Connor in this cult classic.
Terminator was a career changing film; It catapulted James Cameron’s career and established Arnold Schwarzenegger as a lead star. The film’s massive commercial success led to a franchise consisting of several sequels, making this Terminator movie 1984 poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated in India during the local release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1980s), this Terminator poster was originally intended for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, aka The Terminator” is seen in a large photographic still prominently in this original Hollywood poster. He is seen wearing his trademark sunglasses and holding a gun. CSM-101 (Cyberdyne Systems Model 101) is seen written in red lighting on one side of his glasses.
The superstar’s reflection is seen on the left side of this original Terminator poster, while red laser streaks are seen against a black background behind him.
An announcement at the top spells out the action star’s last name, “Schwarzenegger” in red. The title of the film appears in a steel font at the bottom, preceded by the text, “In the Year of Darkness, the rulers of this planet devised the ultimate plan. They would reshape the Future by changing the Past. The plan required something that felt no pity. No pain. No fear. Something unstoppable. They created.”
Made on a modest budget of $6.4 million, Terminator (1984) grossed $78.3 million worldwide. It is believed to be one of the first films to explore the potential dangers of AI.
The film’s massive success led to five subsequent installments: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015) and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019). In 2008, The Terminator was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
One of the dialogues from the film, “I’ll be back” has become instantly relatable to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
