This is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the 2019 musical drama co-written and directed by Zoya Akhtar.
Gully Boy (2019) starred Ranveer Singh in the lead role. Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash and Vijay Raaz played supporting roles in the film.
The film was inspired from the true story of Indian street rappers DIVINE and Naezy. Ranveer Singh played an aspiring street rapper in Gully Boy who comes from the slums of Mumbai (Dharavi).
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 2019), this Gully Boy poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Gully Boy premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. The film won a record 13 Filmfare Awards, the most awards for a single film in a year, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Ranveer Singh) and Best Actress (Alia Bhatt), making this original Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
Gully Boy also became the sixth film to win all four major awards at the Filmfare Awards (Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress), after Guide (1965), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Devdas (2002) and Black (2005).
Internationally, it won the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea. It was also selected as India’s entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
Lead star Ranveer Singh is seen in a stunning bust sized photograph prominently in this original Gully Boy poster. He is seen wearing a hoodie and listening to rap music on his earphones. Handwritten rap lyrics are seen in the background on the left of this Gully Boy poster.
The title of the poster appears prominently in English in a spray paint like font, with the release date (Valentine’s Day) mentioned at the bottom. The subtitle of the film reads, “Apna Time Aayega (Our Time Will Come).” A translation of the title in Devanagari Hindi is seen at the bottom of this original Bollywood poster.
Unlike most Bollywood films, the soundtrack album of Gully Boy was composed by hip hop artists. The music was supervised by Ankur Tewari and the album brought the diverse worlds of Bollywood and hip hop together. American rapper Nas was engaged as an executive producer in Gully Boy. One of the songs from the film, “Apna Time Aayega” became a rage throughout the nation and is played till date.
