Hunterwali Ki Beti poster for sale.
This is an actual surviving rare vintage original Bollywood poster of the 1943 Hindi film produced by J.B.H. Wadia and Homi Wadia under the Basant Pictures banner. Directed by Batuk Bhatt, Hunterwali Ki Beti starred Mary Ann Evans, better known as “Fearless Nadia” or “Nadia Hunterwali” in the lead role opposite John Cawas.
Sardar Mansoor, Rajkumari, Sayani, Gulab, Dalpat, Ranibala, Azim, A.K. Hasan, Boman Shroff and Khan Mastana played supporting roles in the film.
Born in Australia, Fearless Nadia was one of the earliest actresses in Indian cinema to star in lead (primarily women-oriented action-packed) roles. In her illustrious career, Fearless Nadia starred in dozens of films produced and directed by Homi Wadia, starting from her debut in the film Hunterwali (1935).
Hunterwali Ki Beti was one of Fearless Nadia’s early films released in the pre-independence colonial era, making this vintage Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during the theatrical release of the film (somewhere in the late 1940s / early 1950s), this Hunterwali Ki Beti poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This rare vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by an art studio in Delhi. Mary Ann Evans is seen in a large hand drawn quirky portrait on the top, holding her trademark whip and wearing a feathered hat. She is seen again in a dramatic scene from the film, tied on to a railway track with a steam locomotive heading her way. John Cavas is seen in a fight sequence at the bottom of this Hunterwali Ki Beti poster.
The poster uses almost pastel-like shades of blue and green, giving it a very vintage and pleasing appearance. The Basant Pictures logo is seen on the bottom center of this Fearless Nadia poster. Lettering used in this Hunterwali Ki Beti poster is entirely in English with the title of the film translated to both Devanagari Hindi as well as Urdu at the bottom. The title of the film appears in a very catchy red and yellow color tone, grabbing the viewer’s attention instantly.
