Dramatic movie posters for sale: Pyar Hi Pyar (1969).
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the hit 1969 Hindi film directed by Bhappi Sonie that featured Dharmendra in the lead role opposite actress Vyjayanthimala.
Produced by Rajaram and Satish Wagle and released under the R.S. Productions’ banner, Pyar Hi Pyar (1969) also starred Pran, Mehmood, Helen, Madan Puri, Dhumal, Raj Mehra, D.K. Sapru, Manmohan, Sulochana Latkar, Sulochana Chatterjee, Krishan Dhawan, Mehmood Jr. and Shatrughan Sinha (credited as S. Sinha) in supporting roles.
Pyar Hi Pyar (1969) is the only movie in which the “He-Man of Bollywood” Dharmendra and dancing sensation Vyjayanthimala were paired together, making this old Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
A romantic drama, Pyar Hi Pyar (1969) told the story of an honest man (Dharmendra) who becomes a police officer against his wealthy adoptive father’s wishes. His first assignment is to find the missing father of a beautiful woman, whom he falls in love with.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s), this vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This Pyar Hi Pyar movie poster was originally designed using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas as well as photographic collage techniques by a poster design studio in Delhi and features a striking design. The printed signature of Bollywood poster painter Laxman is seen on the bottom left.
A large striking close up hand drawn illustration of Dharmendra is seen in the background at the center. Bollywood poster artist Laxman captures his character perfectly with highlights of yellow, blue and red. Smaller illustrated portraits of Vyjayanthimala and Pran are seen alongside on the right.
Shatrughan Sinha is depicted taking aim from a pistol on the top left of this dramatic movie poster. A bloody dagger is seen hand painted on the bottom left along with a small portrait of comedian Mehmood. The bottom center of this old Bollywood poster depicts an over painted photographic still of Dharmendra in a fight pose. A car chase sequence appears alongside on the bottom right along with an explosion.
Typography used in this vintage Pyar Hi Pyar movie poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the title appearing in a fascinating 3D type. The background uses a mix of different shades and broad brush strokes to give a lot of different colors to this dramatic movie poster.
The soundtrack album of Pyar Hi Pyar (1969) was composed by hit duo Shankar Jaikishan and was a phenomenal success upon it’s release. Legendary playback singer Mohammed Rafi sang all six songs in the film. The title track, “Dekha Hai Teri Aankhon Mein Pyar Hi Pyar” is fondly remembered and played till today. “Main Kahin Kavi Na Ban Jaoon” was another very popular track from the film.
