Featured here is an original Bollywood poster of the 1995 love triangle written, produced and directed by Ram Gopal Varma and starred Aamir Khan, Jackie Shroff and Urmila Matondkar in lead roles.
Rangeela (1995) was a blockbuster hit and proved to be a turning point for superstar Aamir Khan’s career. The film also gave actress Urmila Matondkar the moniker “Rangeeli” (Colorful girl).
Reema Lagoo, Achyut Potdar, Rajesh Joshi, and Gulshan Grover played supporting roles in the film. Saroj Khan, Shefali Chhaya, Madhur Bhandarkar and Aditya Narayan made special appearances in the film, while noted choreographer Remo D’Souza featured in the title song as a backup dancer.
Rangeela (1995) marked ace music composer AR Rahman’s first Hindi film, for which he won several awards, making this Aamir Khan film poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated a few years after the first release of the film (somewhere in the late 1990s), this Aamir Khan poster was originally designed for publicity of a rerun of the film but never ended up being used.
This Rangeela poster features a small close up picture of AR Rahman encircled with the text, “AR Rahman’s first original Hindi music”. The typography used in this poster is entirely in English except for the title, which is seen in Devanagari Hindi in a large yellow font.
Jackie Shroff is seen in a large close up on the left of this Rangeela movie poster. He is seen again twice with Urmila Matondkar in Rangeela photos taken from iconic songs in the film. Aamir Khan, who plays a pivotal role in the film, is seen in a smaller solo close up on the right of this Rangeela poster.
Rangeela was AR Rahman’s first Hindi film in which he composed an original score. Post the film’s massive commercial success, the ace composer (fondly referred to as the “Mozart of Madras”) gained a cult following in Bollywood and bagged numerous projects in the Hindi film industry.
Rangeela was a box office blockbuster and bagged numerous awards and is remembered till date for AR Rahman’s brilliantly composed songs. Chart toppers like “Rangeela Re”, “Hai Rama”, “Kya Kare Kya Na Kare”, “Tanha Tanha Yaha Pe Jeena”, “Yaaro Sun Lo Zara”, “Mangta Hai Kya” & “Yayi re Yayi Re” are some of the finest songs ever composed in the recent history of Bollywood.
The film’s stellar soundtrack was backed by spectacular dance sequences choreographed by Ahmed Khan and Saroj Khan. The present generation’s ace choreographer Remo D’Souza appeared as a background dancer in the title song of Rangeela.
