Gun film posters for sale: Dhund (1973).
Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1973 Hindi thriller produced and directed by B.R. Chopra that starred Sanjay Khan, Zeenat Aman, Danny Denzongpa and Navin Nischol in key roles.
Inspired by Agatha Christie’s 1958 play, “The Unexpected Guest,” Dhund (1973) also starred Deven Verma, Madan Puri, Ashok Kumar and Jagdish Raj in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1973), this vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Zeenat Aman poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by the leading and highest paid Bollywood poster artist of his time, Diwakar Karkare of Studio Diwakar fame.
Master Bollywood poster artist Diwakar’s flair over the paintbrush is seen in a stunning illustration of the four lead actors. Sanjay Khan and Navin Nischol are seen on the top, while Danny Denzongpa and Zeenat Aman are illustrated at the bottom. Their close up portraits have been painted overlapping each other, signifying an overlap or interconnection between their lives. Strong contrasting colors have been used by Diwakar to capture the raw emotional content of the characters, without compromising on their likeness.
A hand holding a long barrel pistol is seen cutting across the illustrated faces diagonally. Noted Bollywood poster painter Diwakar uses a measured and restrained approach in this gun film poster, keeping the background minimal white. The strong contrasting tones of the portraits stand out against the same.
The artist’s signature is seen in a creative curve line over the thumb of the hand holding the revolver. Actress Zeenat Aman’s eyes have been captured brilliantly, peeking out from behind the pistol.
Typography used in this Bollywood poster is entirely in English in this gun film poster. The title, true to it’s meaning is encased in a cloud of haze.
The soundtrack album of Dhund (1973) was composed by Ravi, while lyrics were written by Sahir Ludhianvi. One of the tracks from the film, “Uljhan Suljhe Na, Rasta Sujhe Na” sung by Asha Bhosle became popular during it’s release.
