Lagaan team poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the blockbuster 2001 period Hindi film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker that starred Aamir Khan in the lead role.
Produced by Aamir Khan and presented under the Aamir Khan Productions’ banner, Lagaan (2001) also starred Gracy Singh, Raghubir Yadav, Yashpal Sharma and A. K. Hangal along with British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne in supporting roles.
An Indian epic sports-drama, Lagaan (2001) became the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1988), making this Lagaan team poster highly collectible!
Lagaan received critical acclaim and bagged eight National Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards, nine Screen Awards and ten IIFA Awards. It was included in Empire Magazine’s “100 Best Films of World Cinema,” Time Magazine’s “All-TIME 25 Best Sports Movies” and was also the only Indian film to be listed on Channel 4’s “50 Films to See Before you Die.”
Printed and circulated somewhere during the initial release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in 2001), this Lagaan team poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
A striking close up photograph of lead actor Aamir Khan is seen dominating the top half of this original Bollywood poster. The entire Lagaan Indian cricket team comprising eleven players is seen at the bottom of this glossy Aamir Khan poster. The subtitle at the bottom reads, “Once upon a time in India,” which gives away the period setting of the film.
The film’s tax free status is advertised in bold letters in vertical typography on the right. An announcement on the top of this Lagaan team poster declares, “Winner of the ‘PRIX DU PUBLIC’ award at the 54th Locarno Film Festival 2001.”
The highly acclaimed soundtrack of Lagaan (2001) was composed by A.R. Rahman with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. Held as one of A.R. Rahman’s finest compositions, the soundtrack became a rage throughout the nation upon its release. Songs like “Mitwa” and “Chale Chalo” are fondly remembered and played till today.
