Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani jointly under the banners of Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films, Sanju (2018) also starred Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, Jim Sarbh, Karishma Tanna, Sayaji Shinde, Piyush Mishra and Anjan Srivastav in supporting roles. Tabu and Mahesh Manjrekar made guest appearances, while Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani appeared in footage scenes towards the end of this biopic.
The film was based on the real life story of Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt, highlighting in particular his battle with drug abuse and his incarceration on terrorism charges.
