Featured here is an original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1966 super hit Hindi film directed by Vijay Anand that starred the “Elvis Presley of India” Shammi Kapoor in the lead role opposite Asha Parekh.
Produced by Nasir Hussain under his Nasir Hussain Films banner, Teesri Manzil (1966) also starred Helen, Prem Chopra, Premnath, Iftekhar, Laxmi Chhaya and K. N. Singh in supporting roles.
A musical thriller, Teesri Manzil (1966) told the story of a young girl called Rupa (Sabina) who falls from the third floor of The Park Hotel under mysterious circumstances. Two eyewitnesses, drummer Rocky (Shammi Kapoor) and dancer Ruby (Helen) performing at The Park Hotel confirm the death to be suicide. However, the plot thickens when Rupa’s sister Sunita (Asha Parekh) claims to have received a letter written by Rupa on the night of her death, professing her love for Rocky and a desperate bid to marry him before society found out about their affair. Sunita sets out to find Rocky to avenge her sister’s death but unknowingly falls in love with him instead. As several twists and turns follow, the real cause of Rupa’s death is revealed as well as the identity of the person responsible for the same.
Teesri Manzil (1966) is considered a timeless classic largely due to its fabulous music composed by one of the greatest composers in Bollywood, RD Burman, making this vintage Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during a subsequent screening of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1970s), this Teesri Manzil 1966 poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Originally designed in photographic collage format by pasting still photos on a board, this retro Bollywood poster features a striking design. Actress Asha Parekh is seen in a dancing pose in a black and white still photograph on the top, while actor Shammi Kapoor appears in a yellow tinted picture at the bottom.
Retro vertical stripes alternating between blue and yellow are seen in the top half of the background of this Teesri Manzil 1966 poster. The bottom portion features a diagonal division and is kept minimal black for the lettering to stand out in contrast. Typography used in this poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi.
The soundtrack album of Teesri Manzil (1966) was responsible for jump starting noted music composer RD Burman’s illustrious music career. Songs from the film went on to become blockbusters and remain popular to this day. “Tumne Mujhe Dekha” sung by Mohammad Rafi, “O Mere Sona Re Sona Re” sung by Mohammad Rafi & Asha Bhosle, “O Haseena Zulfonwali Jaane Jahan” sung by Mohammad Rafi & Asha Bhosle and “Aaja Aaja Mein Hoon Pyar Tera” sung by Mohammad Rafi & Asha Bhosle are considered some of the greatest songs ever composed in Indian cinema.
