Anmol Ghadi poster for sale.
This is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the old pre-independence 1946 Hindi film directed by Mehboob Khan that starred two of the most successful actresses and playback singers of Indian cinema, Suraiya and Noor Jehan in key roles along with Surendra and Zahur Raja.
A super hit musical drama, Anmol Ghadi (1946) featured one of the most memorable songs in Indian cinema, “Jawan Hai Mohabbat, Haseen Hai Zamana” sung by the “Queen of Melody” Noor Jehan and picturized on her.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent theatrical release run of the film (somewhere in the 1960s), this Anmol Ghadi poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This vintage Noor Jehan poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bollywood poster design studio in Bombay.
A stunning illustrated portrait of actress Noor Jehan is seen on the top right of this vintage Bollywood poster. Dressed in a saree, she is seen holding a pen to her chin, contemplating. Actor Surendra is seen in a romantic pose with Suraiya at the bottom of this Anmol Ghadi poster.
All three hand painted portraits feature brilliant highlights used on the hair of the actors, which is a distinctive element of vintage Bollywood posters. The face of a watch, which is key to the film’s plot, is seen at the center of this Suraiya poster.
Typography used in this hand painted Bollywood poster is primarily in English, with a translation of the title seen at the bottom in both Devanagari Hindi as well as in Urdu.
Soothing shades of green and blue are used in the background of this vintage Anmol Ghadi poster. The lettering, written in yellow and white, stands out in sharp contrast.
The soundtrack album of Anmol Ghadi was composed by one of the greatest music directors in Indian cinema, Naushad. It featured one of the first noteworthy songs of leading playback singer Mohammed Rafi, “Tera Khilona Toota Balak.” Other memorable songs from the album included “Aawaaz De Kahaan Hai” and “Mere Bachpan Ke Saathi Mujhe Bhool Na Jaana” sung by Noor Jehan.
Anmol Ghadi (1946) is believed to have inspired the Telugu film, Manasantha Nuvve (2001), Hindi film Jeena Sirf Merre Liye (2002), Kannada film Manasella Neene (2002), Tamil film Thithikudhe (2003), Bengali film Moner Majhe Tumi (2003) and Odia film Nei Jaa Re Megha Mate (2008).
