CID movie poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the cult 1956 Hindi film produced by Guru Dutt and directed by Raj Khosla that featured the evergreen star of Bollywood, Dev Anand in the lead role.
A black and white crime thriller, CID (1956) also starred Shakila, Waheeda Rehman, Johnny Walker, Mehmood, K.N. Singh, Bir Sakhuja, Kum Kum, Mehmood, Minoo Mumtaz, Jagdish Raj, Sheela Vaz and Tun Tun in supporting roles.
CID marked the onscreen debut of Waheeda Rehman in Bollywood, who would later go on to become one of the most accomplished actresses in Indian cinema, making this CID movie poster highly collectible.
CID (1956) was the result of a pact between close friends Dev Anand and Guru Dutt, who had promised to cast each other as lead actors in films they would direct. Bhappi Sonie and Pramod Chakravorty who assisted Guru Dutt in the direction of CID (1956) would later go on to become successful filmmakers in Indian cinema.
Printed and circulated during the initial release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1950s), this old Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Originally hand painted on canvas by a leading Bollywood poster design studio in Bombay, this original CID movie poster features stunning artwork.
Dev Anand is seen in his character of a police investigator in a brilliant hand drawn portrait on the top. He is seen wearing a hat and a trench coat holding a pistol in one outstretched hand. Smaller illustrated portraits of Waheeda Rehman, Shakila and Johnny Walker are seen at the bottom. Indian cinema’s most successful comedian is seen painted in broad brushstrokes in green playing the harmonica, with his hat hilariously floating above his head.
Typography in this CID movie poster is primarily in English, with only a translation of the title appearing in Devanagari Hindi. The English title has been illustrated in a striking blood red font with a yellow border, while the Devanagari Hindi title appears in green.
The soundtrack album of CID (1956) was composed by O. P. Nayyar, while lyrics were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and Jan Nisar Akhtar. It became a blockbuster hit upon it’s release and is fondly remembered for giving Indian cinema a total of four unforgettable classics: “Leke Pehla Pehla Pyaar” sung by Shamshad Begum, Asha Bhosle & Mohammed Rafi; “Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein Ishara Ho Gaya” sung by Mohammed Rafi & Geeta Dutt; “Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan” sung by Mohammed Rafi & Geeta Dutt and “Kahin Pe Nigahen Kahin Pe Nishana” sung by Shamshad Begum.
