Old Telugu movie posters for sale: Giraftaari (1991).
Featured here is a rare original old movie poster of the 1991 Telugu action drama Nirnayam (Decision) dubbed and released in Hindi as Giraftaari. Directed by Priyadarshan, Giraftaari starred Nagarjuna, Amala Akkineni and Sharat Saxena in key roles.
Giraftaari (1991) also starred Subhalekha Sudhakar, Giri Babu, Annapoorna, Sukumari, Jyothi, Suthivelu, Allu Ramalingaiah, Chinni Jayanth, Charuhasan, Chota K. Naidu, Bhimeswara Rao, Prasanna Kumar, Rajeevi, Potti Veeraiyah and Husain in supporting roles.
Nirnayam (1991) was noted filmmaker Priyadarshan’s first Telugu directorial venture, making this old Telugu movie poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated a few years after the first release of the film (somewhere in the 1990s), this old Telugu movie poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This rare Giraftaari poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a movie poster design studio in Kolkata and features stunning illustrated artwork.
Hand drawn illustrations of the lead couple Nagarjuna and Amala Akkineni are seen prominently at the center of this Bollywood poster. A brilliant shade of green is used in the drawing, with half their faces in silhouette.
This old Bollywood poster seems to suggest a strong influence of Andy Warhol pop art portraits. The entire poster is painted in a two tone color scheme of green and black, making it extremely eye catching. Typography used in this old Telugu movie poster is primarily in English, with a translation of the title in both Devanagari Hindi as well as Bengali at the bottom.
The title of the film appears in a very artistic 3D styled font with two handcuffed hands drawn on the top spelling out the meaning of the film’s name (arrest). A smaller caricature style rendering of actor Nagarjuna pointing a pistol is seen on top of the title as well.
This old Telugu movie poster capitalizes on the success of Ram Gopal Varma’s blockbuster film, Shiva (1990) which marked the Bollywood debut of Nagarjuna and starred him with Amala Akkineni as well. An announcement on the top of this Giraftaari poster reads: “Shiva” fame Nagarjuna in.
The soundtrack album of Giraftaari (1991) was composed by the greatest music composer in Indian cinema, Ilaiyaraaja. Believed to be inspired from Stakeout (1987), director Priyadarshan made Vandanam (1989) in Malayalam. Post the film’s success, it was remade in Telugu as Nirnayam (1991), which was dubbed in Tamil as Sambavamand (1991) and in Hindi as Girafthari (1991).
