Directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan, Happy New Year was made on a budget of 100 crore rupees. The film’s opening was the biggest release ever in India, with half it’s budget recovered on the very first day of screening itself.

An announcement on the top of this Bollywood poster reads, “Iss Diwali … Todenge Taale Indiawaale (English translation: This Diwali … Indians Will Break Locks).

The soundtrack album for Happy New Year was composed by Vishal-Shekhar. Songs from the film, most notably “Indiawaale” are fondly remembered and played at sporting as well as patriotic events across the world. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has even included the film’s script in their library.
