Satyam Shivam Sundaram movie poster for sale.
Featured here is a reissue Bollywood poster of the classic 1978 Hindi film directed and produced by the Showman of Indian cinema, Raj Kapoor that starred Shashi Kapoor and Zeenat Aman in lead roles.
Released under the RK Films’ banner, Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) also starred Padmini Kolhapure, Kanhaiyalal, A. K. Hangal, David Abraham, Leela Chitnis, Tun Tun and Hari Shivdasani in supporting roles.
The film told the story of a dam engineer who falls in love with a village woman on hearing her sing, not knowing that she has a partially disfigured face.
Like many of Raj Kapoor’s films, Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) had a highly controversial bold scene featuring Zeenat Aman in a wet see-through white saree. It was due to this very scene that several heroines approached by Raj Kapoor for the role had rejected the offer, including Hema Malini, Dimple Kapadia and Vidya Sinha. Despite the nudity, the film was released with a Universal rating on the festival day of Holi on March 24th 1978.
It’s release was challenged in Himachal Pradesh High Court and a case was filed against Raj Kapoor for promoting obscenity. The filmmaker however approached the Supreme Court which quashed the case, citing the fact that the certificate for the film’s release had already been granted, and as such, Raj Kapoor could no longer be held liable.
Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) featured the last recorded song of legendary playback singer Mukesh and was dedicated to him, making this Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated somewhere in the early 2000s, this reissue Bollywood movie poster was originally designed for publicity of a recent re-release of the film but never ended up being used.
The two lead actors Shashi Kapoor & Zeenat Aman are seen in a photographic still taken from a key scene in the film. Striking typography is seen in the logo of this Satyam Shivam Sundaram poster.
The message, “Love sublime filmed by Raj Kapoor” is seen on the top right hand corner of this Satyam Shivam Sundaram poster.
The soundtrack album of Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) was composed by legendary duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal and was a blockbuster hit upon it’s release. The duo won the Filmfare Best Music Director Award for their brilliant compositions. The title track “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” sung by Lata Mangeshkar is fondly remembered and played till today.
Legend Mukesh, also called the “voice of Raj Kapoor,” recorded his last song “Chanchal Sheetal Nirmal Komal” for Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) in June 1976. He left shortly after recording the song for a concert tour of the US with melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, where he passed away due to a sudden heart attack on 27th August in Detroit.
