Veer Ghatotkach poster for sale.
This is an actual surviving rare vintage original Bollywood poster of the 1949 mythological Hindi film that was produced by Homi Wadia and directed by Nanabhai Bhatt.
Released under the Basant Pictures banner, Veer Ghatotkach Yane Surekha Haran (1949) was a mythological film based on the story of one of the oldest and most revered Hindi epics of the Mahabharata.
Vasant Pehalwan starred in the film in the titular role of Veer Ghatotkach, while Ram Shastri played the role of his father Bheem. Shahu Modak starred as Lord Krishna, Niranjan Sharma as Balram and Meena Kumari played the role of Surekha. Sumati Gupte, H. Prakash, Sulochana and S.N. Tripathi played supporting roles in Veer Ghatotkach.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1949), this rare Veer Ghatotkach poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a movie poster design studio in Bombay called Kum Kum Art Studio. The printed signature of the artist in the name of the studio is seen on the top right of this mythological movie poster.
Actor Vasant Pehalwan is seen in his character of Veer Ghatotkach on the right in a stunning hand painted rendition. Giant Ghatotkach appears holding Duryodhan, played by H. Prakash, in the palm of his hand.
Lettering used in this poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi.
The soundtrack album of Veer Ghatotkach Yane Surekha Haran (1949) was composed by S.N. Tripathi.
