Madhubala picture poster for sale: Yahoodi Ki Ladki (1957).
Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1957 classic black and white Hindi film produced and directed by S.D. Narang that starred Bollywood’s eternal beauty queen Madhubala in the lead role along with Pradeep Kumar.
Presented under the New Oriental Pictures banner, Yahoodi Ki Ladki (1957) also starred Hiralal, Sunder, Narang and Smriti Biswas in supporting roles. As the film has been lost forever, this Yahoodi Ki Ladki poster is a rare surviving visual snapshot, making it highly collectible!
Based on a historical Urdu play written by Agha Hashar Kashmiri, which itself was an adaptation of W.T. Moncrieff’s 19th century play, “The Jewess,” Yahoodi Ki Ladki (1957) told the story of persecution of Jews by the Romans. First published in 1913, the play became Agha Hashar Kashmiri’s best known work and a classic in Parsi as well as Urdu theater.
The play was adapted into several films, most notably Yahudi Ki Ladki (1933) starring K.L. Saigal, Yahudi Ki Ladki (1956) directed by Nanubhai Vakil and again as Yahudi (1958) directed by Bimal Roy starring Dilip Kumar, Meena Kumari and Sohrab Modi.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release of the film (somewhere in the 1960s), this classic Madhubala picture poster was designed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This vintage Yahoodi Ki Ladki poster was originally designed in mixed media format using a combination of photographic collage as well as hand painted techniques.
The “Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood” Madhubala and actor Pradeep Kumar are seen in a stunning black and white still photograph prominently on the top left. A crimson sun is drawn in the background behind them. Two Jewish dancers are seen at the bottom in a black and white still picture.
This Madhubala picture poster is set against a striking yellow background. Typography used in this old Bollywood poster is primarily in English, with a translation of the title seen in Devanagari Hindi as well as Urdu.
The soundtrack album of Yahoodi Ki Ladki (1957) was composed by Hemant Kumar. It featured the popular song, “Char Din Ki Hai Baharein” sung by Geeta Dutt.
