Featured here is an original Bollywood poster of the classic 1991 romantic Hindi film directed by M.R. Shahjahan that starred Aamir Khan in the lead role opposite actress Neelam.
Produced by Sanjay Seksaria and presented by Arvind Seksaria under the Anuradha Films banner, Afsana Pyar Ka (1991) also starred Deepak Tijori, Neeta Puri, Amita Nangia, Rakesh Bedi, Saeed Jaffrey, Kiran Kumar, Raju Shrestha, Jaya Mathur, Viju Khote, Beena Banerjee and Jeet Upendra in supporting roles.
The film told the story of collegians Raj (Aamir Khan) and Nikita (Neelam) who fall in love. Unbeknownst to them, their families are sworn enemies. The two lovers plan to get married after completing their college degree. However, one day the truth is revealed when Nikita’s uncle (Saeed Jaffrey) meets Raj’s father (Kiran Kumar) and their animosity is rekindled. In a fit of rage, Nikita’s uncle confronts Raj and forbids him from meeting Nikita again. He also reveals to Raj that his deceiving father has been lying to him about his mother for years – She hasn’t passed away but was in fact abandoned by his father and is none other than the principal (Beena Banerjee) of the same college he is studying in.
Printed and circulated during the film’s first release in theaters (somewhere in 1991), this Afsana Pyar Ka poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Aamir Khan and Neelam are seen in a stunning photograph prominently at the center of this Bollywood poster. A smaller still photo featuring the two dancing is seen pasted on the top right. A yellow rectangle is seen in the background behind them encased within a gray blue rectangle. The outside area is kept a minimal white for the lettering to stand out.
Typography used in this Aamir Khan poster is completely in English, except for the film’s title which is translated to Devanagari Hindi on the top. The main English title of the film is seen in blue in a slanted embossed font.
The soundtrack album of Afsana Pyar Ka (1991) was composed by Bappi Lahiri, while lyrics were written by Sameer and Anjaan. One of the songs from the album, “Tip Tip Tip Baarish Shuru Ho Gayi” sung by Amit Kumar and Asha Bhosle was a blockbuster hit and is fondly remembered till today.
