Bollywood horror movie poster for sale: Mahal (1990).
Featured here is an actual surviving publicity poster of the 1990 classic Bollywood horror movie made by the undisputed kings of Bollywood horror, the Ramsay brothers.
Directed by Keshu Ramsay and written by Kumar Ramsay, Mahal (1990) starred Suresh Oberoi, Sujit Kumar, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Goga Kapoor, Rakesh Bedi, Ashok Saraf, Sameer Khakhar, Om Shivpuri, Viju Khote, Narendra Nath, Huma Khan, Kamal Kapoor, Roshni, Prema Narayan, Trilok Kapoor and Kedarnath Saigal.
Produced by Awatar Poddar and released under the S.A. Productions banner, Mahal (1990) was actually a suspenseful murder mystery thriller but marketed as a horror movie.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1990), this Mahal poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bollywood horror movie poster was originally designed in photographic collage format by cutting out still pictures of actors from separate photographs using a blade and pasting them on a canvas board. The title is hand painted, which makes this Hindi horror poster an interesting mix of two very different design techniques. The printed signature of old Bollywood poster artist Ravi who designed this Mahal poster appears on the center right.
This old Indian horror movie poster features a large close up of actor Goga Kapoor in his character of a murdered king on the top. Smaller waist length photos of eight of the nine invitees to the palace along with the two boatmen who take them there are seen below, i.e. Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Viju Khote, Sujit Kumar, Sameer Khakhar, Suresh Oberoi, Ashok Saraf, Prema Narayan, Roshni, Narendra Nath and Om Shivpuri.
Typography used in this old Bollywood horror movie poster is primarily in English, with the title translated into Devanagari Hindi as well, appearing in blood dripping horror font in yellow.
The soundtrack album of Mahal (1990) was composed by music maestro Bappi Lahiri, while lyrics were written by Anjaan and songs were sung by Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Aziz and Bappi Lahiri.
