Rockstar poster for sale.
Featured here is a rare surviving original Bollywood poster of the memorable musical drama written and directed by Imtiaz Ali that starred Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri in lead roles.
Produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision and Eros International, Rockstar (2011) also starred the “Elvis Presley of India,” veteran actor Shammi Kapoor in his last film appearance, along with Piyush Mishra, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shernaz Patel, Aakash Dahiya, Jaideep Ahlawat and Moufid Aziz in supporting roles.
Rockstar (2011) was both critically as well as commercially acclaimed, winning Ranbir Kapoor Best Actor and A.R. Rahman Best Music Director at the 57th Filmfare Awards. The film has attained cult status and a massive fan following over the years, particularly among the youth, making this Ranbir Kapoor movie poster, highly collectible.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 2011), this Rockstar poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Bollywood’s best poster designer Rahul Nanda conceptualized this Ranbir Kapoor movie poster, while Polish illustrator Grzegorz Domaradzki illustrated the artwork in hand drawn as well as digital formats.
This Bollywood poster represents a resurgence of hand painted movie poster art, decades after the industry shifted completely to photographic techniques.
Superstar Ranbir Kapoor is seen in a striking hand drawn avatar at the center. He appears singing and playing the guitar, surrounded by flames in the background. A large side profile close up of actress Nargis Fakhri is seen artistically hand painted on the left.
Typography used in this old Bollywood poster is primarily in Devanagari Hindi. The title appears in a stunning gold font that seems forged in fire. Two raised fists emerging from the flames below the movie title give away the revolutionary theme of the film. The combination of red, yellow, orange and gold hues used in the design of this Rockstar poster give it a very catchy appearance.
The soundtrack album of Rockstar (2011) was composed by musical maestro A.R. Rahman, while lyrics were written by Irshad Kamil. It became a rage throughout the nation at the time of it’s release, bagging numerous awards across categories like Best Playback singer (both male as well as female), Best Music Director, Best Lyricist and Best Background score. The album topped the iTunes world charts in 2011 and continued its legacy until early 2012.
The song “Sadda Haq” sung by Mohit Chauhan became a “youth anthem” and is fondly remembered and played till today, inspiring countless memes and motivational quotes on the Internet. “Naadaan Parinde” and “Kun Faaya Kun” sung by A.R. Rahman & Mohit Chauhan and “Katiya Karoon” sung by Harshdeep Kaur were other very popular tracks from the film.
