Soorma Bhopali poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the 1988 Hindi comedy written, edited and directed by comedian Jagdeep that starred him in the titular role.
Produced by Naved and released under the banner of J.N. Entertainers, Soorma Bhopali (1988) also starred Jagdeep’s son Jaaved Jaaferi along with Junior Mehmood, Bhagwan, Johnny Lever, Kader Khan, Menka (in her debut role), Madhu Malhotra, Yunus Parvez, Pinchoo Kapoor, Mac Mohan, Viju Khote, Mohan Choti, Dinesh Hingoo, Tun Tun, Polson, C.S. Dubey, Jagdish Raj, K.N. Singh, Manik Irani, Leela Mishra and Birbal in supporting roles.
Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Danny Denzongpa, Aruna Irani and Ranjeet made special appearances in this hilarious Bollywood film.
Soorma Bhopali (1988) saw comedian Jagdeep reprise his cult comic character from the blockbuster film Sholay (1975). He played a double role as “Soorma Bhopali” and as his identical step brother “Dilawar Khan Dilwala” in the film. Superstar Dharmendra played a double role as well in this old Bollywood comedy movie.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release of the film (somewhere in the late 1980s / early 1990s), this old Bollywood poster was designed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This Soorma Bhopali poster was originally designed using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas techniques as well as photographic collage by an art studio in Jaipur and features stunning artwork. The printed signature of Bollywood poster painter Solanki is seen on the bottom left.
Two close up photographic stills of superstars Amitabh Bachchan (in police uniform) and Dharmendra (wearing a Boss sweatshirt) are seen on the left and right respectively. A striking hand drawn illustration of Manik Irani fighting with Jaaved Jaaferi is seen between them. Villain Ranjeet is seen in a photographic still on the center left, while actor Kader Khan is seen in a hilarious over painted still photo on the center right with the Eiffel tower over his head.
Actress Rekha is seen in a quirky hand drawn illustration holding on to a bottle of alcohol in one hand and a flower in the other at the bottom center. She is seen dressed as a newly wed bride along with actor Jagdeep on her honeymoon night. The priceless ancestral necklace which Soorma Bhopali must give to his wife is seen painted around the couple in the shape of a heart. Still photos of Danny Denzongpa and Aruna Irani are seen on the bottom left and right respectively.
The background used in this Soorma Bhopali poster is a fiery mix of yellow and orange on the top, sky blue at the center, a multi color brick wall below and a patch of cyan at the bottom. Typography used in this old Bollywood comedy poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi. The film’s large Devanagari Hindi title appears in two separate colors used for the two different words in yellow and red.
The soundtrack album of Soorma Bhopali (1988) was composed by Dilip Sen and Samir Sen, while lyrics were written by Asad Bhopali. It featured memorable songs, such as “Baadal Sataye” sung by Asha Bhosle and the title track, “Main Hoon Soorma Bhopali” sung by Mohammed Aziz & Jagdeep.
