Featured here is an original Bollywood poster of the critically acclaimed art Hindi film Dhobi Ghat (2010).

This is an actual surviving Bollywood poster of the 2010 parallel Hindi film that featured superstar Aamir Khan, Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra in key roles. Kiran Rao made her directorial debut with Dhobi Ghat and the film was written as well as jointly produced by her along with Aamir Khan (her husband at the time).

Dhobi Ghat premiered in September 2010 at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in theaters in January 2011. German distributor Rapid Eye Movies bought the rights for the film’s theatrical release in Germany.

Dhobi Ghat was released without an intermission, becoming the first Indian film to do so, making this Aamir Khan film poster, highly collectible!

Printed and circulated during the theatrical debut of the film (somewhere in 2010), this Dhobi Ghat movie poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

An interesting collage of faces set against a minimal white background is seen in this Aamir Khan poster. The four central characters of the film, Aamir Khan, Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra are seen intertwined in this Dhobi Ghat poster. The design of the poster seems to suggest a connection between the separate lives of the four individuals.

Colors used in each face are different, with Prateik Babbar appearing in black and white. Artistic brush strokes are seen over the faces, giving this Dhobi Ghat movie poster the look and feel of a hand painted Bollywood poster. The Mumbai cityscape appears on the top, merging with the hair of lead actor Prateik Babbar.

The soundtrack of Dhobi Ghat was composed by Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla and includes a song by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The film featured the legendary song, “Dil Tadap Tadap Ke Kah Raha Hai” from the film Madhumati (1958), sung by Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar.
