Dostana poster for sale! Featured here is an original Bollywood movie poster of the pioneering Hindi film, Dostana (2008).
This is an actual surviving Bollywood poster of Dostana, which was one of the first mainstream Hindi films (featuring leading stars of the time) to openly explore the subject of homosexuality in a romcom format.
Released in 2008, Dostana was directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Karan Johar and Hiroo Yash Johar. Dostana starred Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra in pivotal roles. Bobby Deol, Kirron Kher and Boman Irani played supporting roles in the film.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film (somewhere in the year 2008), this Dostana poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Dostana was filmed almost entirely in Miami, Florida, selected as a preference over New York for its larger and more spacious homes. The film performed very well in the overseas market, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, amassing a cult following among non-resident Indians over the years.
The film set new fashion trends in India, with Priyanka Chopra’s silver saree worn in the song “Desi Girl,” her golden swimsuit and John Abraham’s yellow trunks, all becoming fashion icons generating instant recall. Such was the influence of the costumes and styles used in Dostana that India’s leading retailer Pantaloons partnered with the film to showcase its apparel in its outlets across the country.
Dostana was voted Most Stylish Film by Filmfare in 2013, making this Dostana poster highly collectible!
Dostana was based on the story of two men who pretend to be gay to share an apartment with a girl, with eventually both falling in love with her. In this Priyanka Chopra movie poster, the three leading stars are seen sharing a bed, giving away the plot of the film. A minimal white background is used in this Dostana poster.
Dostana’s soundtrack was composed by the duo Vishal–Shekhar and became a rage throughout the nation. One song in particular, “Desi Girl” (choreographed by Farah Khan) is played till today and regarded as a must-have for every Indian wedding.
Following the film’s cult success, in 2019, Karan Johar announced that a sequel, Dostana 2 starring Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Lakshya would be made.
