Handmade vintage posters for sale: Duniya Ka Mela (1974).
Featured here is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood poster of the 1974 Hindi romantic comedy drama directed by Kundan Kumar that starred Rekha in the lead role opposite Sanjay Khan.
Produced by G.M. Roshan and released under the Pearl Pictures banner, Duniya Ka Mela (1974) also starred Bindu, Ranjeet, Jeevan, Mehmood, Rehman, Purnima, Jagdish Raj, Sunder, M.B. Shetty and Bhagwan Sinha in supporting roles. Ajit, Asrani and Mukri made special appearances in the film.
Duniya Ka Mela (1974) told the story of three kids who go missing during a mela (carnival) when it is hit by a storm. The three kids are swapped between different classes of society. Baby girl Shama/Munni (Rekha) gets adopted and raised as a dancer by a poor duo of traveling performers struggling to make ends meet (Mehmood & Jeevan). Munna (Sanjay Khan) is adopted by a wealthy judge and his wife (Rehman & Purnima), while Shaam (Ranjeet) is raised by a petty criminal. Now grown up as adults, fate brings two of them together and they fall in love with each other without realizing how their lives are interconnected.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s), this Duniya Ka Mela movie poster was originally designed and printed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This handmade vintage poster was originally designed in oil on canvas format by a Bollywood poster art studio in Delhi and features striking artwork.
Actress Rekha is seen in a brilliant over painted full figure rendition in her character of a dancer prominently at the center. She is depicted again in a stunning hand drawn close up illustration on the left and for a third time in a romantic embrace with actor Sanjay Khan on the top right of this old Bollywood poster.
Comedian Mehmood is seen smoking a pipe on the center right, while Ajit is depicted smoking a cigarette and holding a pistol on the bottom right. Ranjeet is seen in a hand drawn illustration at the bottom left wielding a bloody dagger in his hand. A fight scene is depicted on the top left in hand drawn format.
Typography used in this Duniya Ka Mela movie poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi. The title of the film is split into three different colors, with one shade used for each word (red, blue and yellow respectively). Background used in this old Bollywood poster is a mix of sky blue and green.
The soundtrack album of Duniya Ka Mela (1974) was composed by hit duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal, while lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. It featured the catchy song, “Dil Khol Ke Mainu Aaj Naach Lene De” sung by melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.
