Man Mandir poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the 1971 Hindi drama directed by Tapi Chanakya that starred Waheeda Rehman and Sanjeev Kumar in key roles.
Produced by Sudesh Kumar (credited as Soodesh Kumar) under the Vijayashree Pictures banner, Man Mandir (1971) also starred him in a supporting role along with Rakesh Roshan, David Abraham, Mehmood, Aruna Irani, Helen, Manorama, Indumati, Kanchan, MacMohan and Jagdish Raj.
Rakesh Roshan and Kanchan made their film debut in Man Mandir (1971).
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1971), this Man Mandir poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by Indian cinema’s most sought after and highest paid movie poster designer, Diwakar Karkare of Studio Diwakar fame, this Mehmood poster features a striking design. The printed signature of master Bollywood poster painter Diwakar is seen on the bottom right of this old Bollywood poster.
Striking hand painted portraits of two supporting actors, Mehmood and Aruna Irani are seen in this original Man Mandir poster. The two have been illustrated on the poster to capitalize on the success of the song which was picturized on them, “Aa Aaja Aaja Abhi Nahin” sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.
Comedian Mehmood is seen in his character of a lawyer in a full length illustration, pointing a finger to the sky and smoking a pipe. A large close up of actress Aruna Irani who plays his love interest in the film is seen hand painted in the background of this Man Mandir poster.
Typography used in this vintage Bollywood poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi. The title of the poster is seen in a striking red font with a blue border. The background is a minimal white, making the portraits and lettering stand out.
The soundtrack album of Man Mandir (1971) was composed by the hit duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It featured the memorable duet, “Jadugar Tere Naina” sung by Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar and the popular cabaret song, “Kahiye Ji Kya Loge” sung by Asha Bhosle.
