This is an actual surviving set of five original Bollywood showcards or lobby cards of the blockbuster Shah Rukh Khan movie, Chennai Express (2013).

Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film starred the “Badshah of Bollywood” in the lead role along with Deepika Padukone. Chennai Express was the first collaboration between director Rohit Shetty and the “King of Bollywood romance” Shah Rukh Khan.

Showcards or lobby cards are used as pin ups on notice boards inside foyers of cinema halls. Printed on thick mounted photo paper, they are easy to display.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the movie somewhere in 2013, this Shahrukh Khan photo set was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This rare surviving Chennai Express Shahrukh Khan photo set was actually issued to a cinema hall that screened the film, making it highly collectible!

Originally titled Ready Steady Po, Chennai Express broke several box office records in India as well as overseas. The action comedy was the quickest film to cross the coveted 100 crore or 1 billion rupees mark in India. Chennai Express surpassed 3 Idiots to become the highest-grossing Bollywood film worldwide at the time of its release. During paid previews in the UK, Chennai Express collected more than any in the first day of a Bollywood film in the UK.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are seen in key songs and scenes from the film, including the climax and the very popular song ”Lungi Dance.” The title of the film appears in a very stylized English font at the bottom of each photo still along with “Ready Steady Po!”

The soundtrack of Chennai Express, composed by Vishal–Shekhar, became a rage throughout the nation during its release. Songs from the film such as “1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor” and ”Lungi Dance,” which was written and performed by Yo Yo Honey Singh are played till today as well as watched on video for their iconic dance moves.
